Ghent is a fantastic area! There is always something happening here! On the South end,the Hague is a picturesque body of water with an arching land mass with high end homes lining the shore. The Hague also provides an unobstructed, beautiful view of the Chrysler Museum. Monticello Ave runs the length of the eastern side. The North end of the neighborhood has some interesting boundaries. 23rd street is listed on Google as the last street included in Ghent. There’s Jeff Robertson Park, Weyanoke Bird and Wildlife Sanctuary, Lambert’s Creek and the Mallory Country Club. Access to Interstate 264 is going to be straight down Brambleton Ave. Locals will know to turn right onto Waterside Drive which also heads right out to I264. Trying to head North to Interstate 64 or 564? Your best option is to head up Granby to one of the many entrances. Trying to get to Naval Station Norfolk? Head right on up Hampton Boulevard.
The Weyanoke Bird and Wildlife Sanctuary was established in 1979 when Audubon members noticed a Purple Gallinule on the land. This was such a super rare visitor to our area, the Norfolk and Southern Railroad gave the land to the Cape Henry Audubon Society. Many birds frequent the park because it’s neighbor, Lamberts Creek is a wonderful place for them to feed. Ghent is park-rich with Jeff Robertson Park, Westover Memorial Park, Graydon Park, Redgate Playground, Yellow Fever Park, Greenway Court Park, Medical Center Park, EVMS Greenspace, Raleigh Avenue Playground, Riverside Park, Beechwood Park, Botetourt Gardens, Ghent Dog Park, Van Wyck Mews, and Olney Road Park. The residence of Ghent are serious about their parks!
All of the coolest, hippest businesses are in the area. There’s several Starbucks of course. If you like independent coffeehouses, Fairgrounds coffee is on Colley Ave. Shopping is eclectic. Enjoy large grocery stores, Harris Teeter, Farm Fresh and Fresh Market. Colley avenue has the Naro Cinema. They play a mix of independent films and oldies. The Ghent neighborhood has plenty to offer in the way of restaurants! Tim Churchwell received his BSBA in finance from East Carolina University and his CRPS from the College of Financial Planning. He later earned his CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member), arguably the highest designation in real estate and has sat on the Executive Board for the Mid Atlantic chapter of CCIM. He is the founder and managing director of the Commercial and Special Markets Alliance. He has taught and consulted nationally on commercial real estate and guest lectured at Regent Law on commercial real estate. During his career, he has earned numerous local and international awards.
Prior to entering real estate, Tim was a licensed New York Stock Exchange branch manager and was the founder and the managing director of The Cornerstone Advisory Group, a holistic financial planning division for a New York Stock Exchange firm.
He has sat on the board of directors for several organizations, including a federal credit union, an automobile buyer agency firm, and the Jefferson Davis Enterprise Zone and Business Incubator. He has consulted to organizations such as an international medical supply company, school district, financial services firms, real estate companies, and printing companies.
He is devoted to his family and community. Some of his community involvements include Charter Member of the Huguenot Trail Rotary Club, board of Chesterfield CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), and President of the Smithfield Rotary Club. Cynthia Garrett believes that the greatest gift she can give her clients is a smooth transaction that results from communication. Working in the field of special education for 30 years has prepared her to be a great listener and problem solver. She worked in real estate while simultaneously teaching and has put her full effort into real estate since retirement.

Larchmont is a extra beautiful neighborhood which is very ODU-centric. The neighborhood starts on the North side of Old Dominion University and continues North between the Lafayette River and Hampton Blvd. The north end is capped by a body of water called Edgewater Haven which flows into the Lafayette River. Your fastest access to the interstate will be up Hampton Blvd to Terminal Blvd (turn right) which will take you to Interstate 564. About a city block away is Interstate 64 which leads North to Hampton or South to Chesapeake. If you are looking for a nice place to pull your boat up to, you are in luck! There are plenty of homes here on navigable water with a dock!
Bluestone Playground is on the South end. It’s a nice playground right next to Foreman Field. There’s plenty of room for running.
Slightly North of there is the imaginatively named Brick Field. It is a field surrounded by brick. There’s not much more there and it’s good for Frisbee throwing and similar activities. Further North is Virginia Park. It is wooded and has a bench and tended grass. Far to the North is Myrtle Park. Myrtle park has a nice small track to walk around. The track has a nice bridge over the South end of Edgewater Haven. So it has an excellent, relaxing beautiful view!
Foreman Field at ODU
You’re in luck for dining! D’Egg is a treat! They serve excellent breakfast dishes from morning time to early afternoon. Hair of the Dog Eatery is a very highly rated hotspot. ODU, of course, attracts a bunch of businesses that you will be quite close to. There is Subway, Miller’s Neighborhood Market, which sells gas too, Gray’s Pharmacy, Del Vecchios Pizza, No. 7 Chinese Fast Food, Taco Bell, Dunkin’, and CVS. There are so many good options for eating and imbibing in the area. It’s a foodie’s dream!
Be sure to check out Westside Produce and Provisions on Colley Ave. There are usually several food establishments on Colley that tend to change hands over time, so look to see what is there. And as usual, there are at least 3 or 4 7-Elevens nearby.
Tidewater Gymnastics Academy is across Hampton Blvd and will provide your kids with various health-activity instruction. A little bit South of there is CrossFit 757 which is obviously a crossfit gym.
