A native of Jamesville, North Carolina, Cynthia has been in the Hampton Roads area for 40 years. Being raised in a home of vulnerability, where there was much love, but not enough resources, her lifelong goal is to help people. Soon realizing her talent to fund raise Cynthia set out to make a difference the best way she knew how.

With that said, she has worked and touched the lives of many people in need through her efforts to
make a difference at the following non-profit agencies: The Samaritan House, (Director of
Development), The Up Center (Director of Development), American Red Cross of Southeastern Virginia (Major Gifts Officer), United Way of South Hampton Roads (Development Director) and the YWCA of South Hampton Roads (Acting Executive Director); EVMS Area Health Education Center (Public Relations
Coordinator & Director of Office Administration). Having now been certified as a Substance Abuse Counselor, Cynthia also served as Vice President of “Spiritual Blessings”, a substance abuse program at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Virginia Beach.

Cynthia currently serves as 1st Vice Chair of the Diversity & Inclusion Council (formerly Minority Advisory Council) for United Way of South Hampton Roads; is a former member of the board of directors for the Association of Fundraising Professionals Hampton Roads Chapter, where she also serves as Chair of the
Diversity & Inclusion Committee; is a former member of the Membership Committee for the Hampton
Roads Chamber of Commerce. She served as co-founder and co-facilitator of “Spiritual
Blessings”, a substance abuse support group.
Cynthia was honored for her dedication and outstanding leadership by the Diversity & Inclusion Council for United Way and at the Beta Theta Zeta Chapter Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Finer Womanhood Observance as one of the “Five Pearls of Leadership”. She also served as President of the Greater Tidewater Churches Softball League for several years where she received the Coach of the Year Award, while playing softball as well.

Timothy Churchwell

Tim Churchwell received his BSBA in finance from East Carolina University and his CRPS from the College of Financial Planning.  He later earned his CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member), arguably the highest designation in real estate and has sat on the Executive Board for the Mid Atlantic chapter of CCIM.  He is the founder and managing director of the Commercial and Special Markets Alliance.  He has taught and consulted nationally on commercial real estate and guest lectured at Regent Law on commercial real estate.  During his career, he has earned numerous local and international awards.

Prior to entering real estate, Tim was a licensed New York Stock Exchange branch manager and was the founder and the managing director of The Cornerstone Advisory Group, a holistic financial planning division for a New York Stock Exchange firm.

Brock Thompson Helps Military Clients Achieve Their Goals Of Home Ownership

One of the greatest joys in a real estate agent’s career is helping our servicemen and women with the purchases and sales of their homes. It’s an honor to serve those who serve our country.

However, this niche does have unique challenges. Many times our military families are asked to purchase a home in an area that they have never visited or know very little about. Often, they are not given a lot of time before they are asked to move to their next assignment.

Because military members often are being transferred from across the country, they usually don’t have the luxury of seeing houses and viewing properties on nights and weekends. Agents must work very hard to communicate with their out-of-town clients via phone calls, email, text, FaceTime and Skype to pinpoint what each buyer is looking for and to provide a long list of potential homes for them to narrow.

One can spend hours previewing homes for his or her clients and then provide them with extra pictures/videos of the properties in which they are interested. This helps the buyers get a better feel of the home than that provided by a general MLS listing. That way, if and when one’s clients are able to fly out to view properties, they can focus on a much more consolidated list of homes that meet the established criteria. The buyers can make their buying decisions with the peace of mind that they are seeing exactly what they want — not wasting time on houses that look good on paper but not in person.

After a long-distance client has decided on a home and a contract is accepted (usually after they’ve headed back to pack up their current house), it’s the agent’s job to coordinate all the details of the home-buying process. This includes home inspections, repairs before closing and any details that may be more difficult to take care of when one lives 3,000 miles away.

The same care and concern goes for listing a home for our country’s military families.

When the orders come for them to head to their next assignment, we as agents must act quickly to make sure that we get them in the best possible position to sell their home fast and efficiently for a fair market price.

Again, good communication is the key because they may not be here while the house is on the market. Good agents will coordinate and be present at any and all inspections and repair work that needs to be done, see that the landscaping is cared for, and generally attend to the needs of the property in the military member’s absence.

REALTORS® are often the first point of contact for many of our military members when they get stationed here. As REALTORS®, being a local expert is a huge help to those who are coming from out of the area.
